The coolest concept that i chose was Mass Communication. Mass communication is a process whereby media organizations produce and transmit messages to large publics and the process by which those messages are sought, used, understood, and affected by audiences. The way we watch television, read the paper and see the internet and listen to the radio is a whole different way than it is presented. The News or the newspaper may say one thing but the interpretation can be seen as a whole different way. It can say one thing im going to think another. It will say that this and that is bad and i will believe it and taken it into perspective. This will make me listen to the news more, watch it more and read the paper as the knowledge that some of the audiences get are now based on those believable facts. It’s the way the messages are transmitted to large audiences.

The coolest concept that i chose was the Media. The media is defined as the channels through which messages are transmitted from sender(s) to recipient (s). Generally speaking the term is used to mean all of forms of mass communication, including radio, newspapers, television, the internet, etc. It’s how one piece of information goes to another. How the news media or the radio stations retrieve their news pieces. It’s how they are wanting to transmit those messages to the large audiences where it all depends on how the audience is affected. How one news audiences get it from another news media. It also depends on how they present their news as well. The way we watch television, read the paper and see the internet and listen to the radio is a whole different way than it is presented. The News or the newspaper may say one thing but the interpretation can be seen as a whole different way. It can say one thing im going to think another.

For my 2nd illustration i chose Segregation. Segregation is the spatial and social seperation of categories of people by racialization, ethnicity, class, gender, religion, or other characteristics. Right now at this very moment In India a Sikh man is locked in jail and is sentenced to be hung and die by the Hindu government for attempting a suicide attack and a killing on a chief who was actually hired by the government to commit Dreadful crimes against everyone. The man who had been charged and is sentenced to be hung is by the name of Balwant Singh Rajoana and he was scheduled to be hung on March 31 for the assassination of Beant Singh in 1995 who was the Chief Minister of Punjab. Beant Singh was the governments go to guy who would get paid to do executions for the Indian government. Balwant Singh Rajoana was a religious man and had enough withsegregation and racism. It all started form the 1984 genocide committed by Indira Ghandi. He had help from his friend and this friend associated in their plot had strapped a bomb to himself and killed Beant Singh. Balwant was taken to court and never pleaded guilty to the charges. Mr. Rajoana did what he had to do. He believed that all this had to come to a stop because the media was saying the sikhs were nothing
. Balwant Singh Rajoana had been arrested in 1995 and never denied involvement in the assassination. Balwant Singh Rajoana has openly called for the death penalty as that is the only right way to do it . It may sound weird but Balwant is inspired by his guru’s (gods). Balwant Singh doesnt mind his sentence at all and isnt afraid of the death penalty. There were many protests that took place in India and around the world. Some of these people who are protesting are seeking mercifulness even thought balwant singh doesnt mind the penalty at all whatsoever

The first Illustration that i chose was Agenda Setting which is the ability of the media to influence people’s perception of what is important, acceptable, or desireable by drawing attention to certain aspects of reality and away from others. As the media their job is to select a few events they want to share and the selection proccess is done subjectively. This concept made me understand news much more than i had. It tells me what is really going on, how its going, what is being selected and how its being selected. It also tells me what parts of the news are missing and if they are being told. For example Agenda Setting plays a role into the news in the sports section such as right now the nhl playoffs are going on and one of the Vancouver Canucks valuable players and highly paid Goalies Roberto Luongo was benched and the other goalie got the start and had won the game for them yet all the media is focusing on what will happen to that Goalie next year and the upcoming years and for the team itself. What will happen to the canucks if they lose that goalie. It’s not focusing on the good positive news for the present but focusing for what will happen to them in the future and with the negative all the time just to get more viewers tuning in and getting more talks and criticism. http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Canucks+Schneider+king+crisis+management+Game+victory+over/6481866/story.htmlve.
Coolest Concept #3
The coolest concept that i chose was the media contains some certain ideological values and messages. All the media products are advertising in some sense for themselves, but also for the values and ways of life. The Media usually affirms the existing social system. The media usually only will try to fwork on those stories that would seem appealing to the upper classes. For example, in the surrey news you will always find the news coverage on Gang violence, murders and robbery. Most of the news that is published is put out for those people that are interest in these types of issues. These issues dont matter as much like other ones do such as tuition for education etc. These types issues only come out to when the audiences asks for it and want to know about it and thats all.

The coolest concept that I chose was Media literacy. Media Literacy is the ability to sift through and analyze the messages that inform, entertain and sell to us everyday. In my opinion i think media literacy is important because us as an audience we should totally be aware of what is being shown to us. Sometimes we need to think to ourselves that what is the media saying and trying to portray to us and what they are not telling us For example if in my other sociology class we talked about cartoons and its effect on young girls. To some people and children cartoons are just goofy and jus entertaining. However many cartoons would considered inappropriate and offensive to most many viewers. Cartoons such as The simpsons, American Dad and Family Guy portray such scenes sexist and racist etc. Some people jus may think this is nothing at all. In my opinion i think us as an audience we need to question what these motives of the programs are that are being shown

For example Agenda Setting plays a role into the news in the sports section such as right now the nhl playoffs are going on and one of the Vancouver Canucks valuable players had been injured earlier and is due back for the next game yet all the media is focusing on what will happen to the canucks if they lose their next game which would eliminate them. It’s not focusing on the good positive news for the present but focusing for what will happen to them in the future and with the negative.
